Anthrax was seen in North Dakota in cattle and bison during July and August; Texas during June and July in cattle, deer, water buffalo, bison, and elk; South Dakota during August and early September in bison; and Minnesota during July and August in cattle.

In addition, one case of human cutaneous anthrax was confirmed in North Dakota and two cases were suspected in Texas during the outbreak.

Also, there was an outbreak in late October in California, with 21 cattle deaths. No human cases were reported.

In contrast, Between October 1 - December 31, the following human cases have been reported. There has been no corresponding outbreak in animals.
