Extract from an e-mail received on 19 April 2001 from Dr John J.H. Shaw, Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development, Windhoek:

End of previous report period: 25 October 2000 (see Disease Information, 13 [42], 188, dated 27 October 2000).

End of this report period: 31 March 2001.

A total of 145,619 cattle in the area were vaccinated with trivalent SAT 1, 2 and 3 vaccine in the first round. In the reporting period, 22,773 cattle in the Kasika area immediately around the infected focus were re-vaccinated.

There were no reports of any new infection for a period of six months ending 31 March 2001 and the outbreak is therefore considered to be over.

All movement restrictions which were imposed in the area as a result of the outbreak have now been lifted.
