New outbreaks:

Laboratory where diagnosis was confirmed: Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright, Surrey (OIE World Reference Laboratory for foot and mouth disease).
Source of agent / origin of infection: unknown at present.
Control measures: stamping-out policy; control programme covering the whole of Northern Ireland. Three-kilometre and ten-kilometre zones established around the outbreaks. Susceptible species slaughtered on adjacent premises. Carcases destroyed by burning.
