• Rabies, otter - USA (Massachusetts) , ProMED-mail, 11 January 2001 -- A New Bedford police officer is undergoing a month-long series of shots after being bitten by a rabid otter at a city housing complex. Officer Louis Cabral was bitten 4 Jan 2001 while responding to another call.
• Rabies, canine - Guatemala , ProMED-mail, 01 January 2001 -- The Ministry of Health exhausted its strychnine supply that is used to eliminate street dogs in order to end an outbreak of rabies, according to official reports
