Yellow fever in Peru

The Ministry of Health has reported an outbreak of yellow fever in the Department of Loreto, in the Peruvian Amazon Region, in the districts of Puinahua, San Pablo and Iquitos. Eight cases have been laboratory confirmed, of which 2 have died.  Twelve additional cases are under investigation.

An epidemiological investigation is underway and the WHO Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO) has mobilized 400 000 doses of vaccine for a vaccination campaign.
