On Wednesday, October 6, 2010, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) celebrated its FAS Awards dinner and ceremony at the Carnegie Institute of Washington. It was an extraordinary evening where intellectual leaders in science, engineering, and policy came together to honor two outstanding individuals.

FAS honored Dr. John Holdren, the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Science Adviser to the President of the United States, with the Hans A. Bethe Award. FAS recognizes Dr. Holdren for his enduring work on complex global issues that hinge on science and technology, such as the causes of climate change, analysis of energy technologies and policies, and ways to reduce the dangers from nuclear weapons.
