I think democracy and security can work together. You know the cards the military uses? If everyone was issued one of those cards then we could do away with searches at the airport, no more need for drivers licences and social security cards that can result in identity theft. Your fingerprint identifies you as the owner of that card. And guess what? No more racial profiling. If you have a card you just swipe it an go - into our government buildings, onto the airplane, into the game. Also the information stored on the card well its no more that what you provide to a bank to get an account opened. And with the fingerprint access only you can open it to get the info needed off of it. Just my two cents....

This topic is important and needs more attention - the present trend is in the opposite direction - the consequences of which are not good.

The idea of our democracy being inferior to any kind of extremism or terrorism would have to be an insult. Our forefathers would have been outraged! No one knew better than our forefathers on how to construct a government that would protect our ideas and liberties together. The brilliance of our founding fathers is displayed in our constitution. The continued brilliance of our country is how to develop methods to counter terrorism while protecting our individual liberties. It is entirely possible and it is in the process of being proven. Measures have been taken to reduce the chances of extremism or terrorism from working its way into our Democracy. Controlling any kind of tyranny is what our constitution is based upon. This would apply to foreign or domestic enemies.
