DoD Annual Report on Counterproliferation

August 2nd, 2006 by Steven Aftergood

The Department of Defense recently published its annual report on counterproliferation, an overview of U.S. government programs to detect, prevent and counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

See “Report on Activities and Programs for Countering Proliferation and NBC Terrorism, Counterproliferation Program Review Committee” (pdf), Volume I, Executive Summary, May 2006.

See also the related “Department of Defense Chemical and Biological Defense Program, Annual Report to Congress” (8.5 MB pdf), March 2006.

The CPRC report – is there a more useless document in the DOD? Absolutely worthless. I find some irony in that DOD “ranked” missile defense as number 6 of 8 in prioritizing its WMD mission areas and passive defense is number 3, and yet missile defense funding increased 20 percent and Dr. Klein says we ought to put more money toward passive defense and standoff detection. The actual acquisition strategy never matches the findings and recommendations of this useless report.
