It simply befuddles me how the American people have enabled a man who has served in a public capacity for as long as Dick Cheney has, to allow him to remain VP while he openly contradicts Constitutional facts that every American learns in the 4th grade. The position of VP is conjoined to the office of the President and the two constitute the head of the Executive Branch of government.

Also, I find it amazing that this little fact seems to be lost when people talk about goverment documents. The government of the United States is elected by the people, and work for the people to do the people's business. All paperwork produced, whether written or electronic and regardless of security level classification, are the property of the people. The VP has no personal claim, other then a legacy in which he can petition for copies through the FOIA like anyone else, to documents produced in the execution of his duties to the people.

What right does this obscure agency in the National Archives have to order around the the executive branch? It looks to me that this is another example of an over-reaching federal agency trying to grab more and more power, without any authorization to do so. If Cheney wants to save his papers for his own personal vice presidential library, why is that any different from what Bush, Clinton, etc., have done?

[The oversight office's authorization comes from President Bush's Executive Order 13292, section 5.1, which gives it authority to implement and oversee the entire classification system. Its directives are "binding." --SA]

And the folly continues on! A couple of quotes from the Constitution and the VP, defending the secrecy of his Energy Task Force:

ARTICLE II:
Section 1
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, TOGETHER WITH (emphasis added) the Vice President, chosen for the same Term...

"[Cheney] said that a congressional probe into the workings of his energy task force "would unconstitutionally interfere with the functioning of the executive branch."
from Dana Milbank in today's WP

Why hasn't Cheney been impeached? What else does he have to do to get people's attention?

I cannot believe Congress is focused on gay marriage while this guy is lies, cheats and steals better than anyone in history.
