It is far more likely that, with their funding, some of the more sophisticated tunnels have been built by Al Quaida with a view to infiltrating terrorists and sleepers.

It should be noted from Gaza experience that many tunnels begin and end inside private houses or (in the case of the US, business properties with "normal" truck traffic) and are thus difficult to detect without highly sophisticated equipment, or reporting by nearby citizens of unusual comings and goings.

Most of these have earned news items -- large and small -- in the newspapers and TV evening news shows of southern California. (Certainly, those exclusive to the CA border have.) That Northern Command would wish to restrict information which can be compiled by anyone with access to a newspaper database is disappointing, if not surprising. Their purpose is simple: drugs running, illegal immigrant routes into the country. Perhaps this could be a segment for Handcuff USA, oops, I mean ABC's Homeland Security USA.

As for terrorists brewing in Canada, either someone's trying to peddle more Predator drone sales or the reliability & psychoanalytic screening program is slipping up again. Or both.
