Air Force commanders from the United States and 13 North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries visited the Air Intelligence Agency and San Antonio April 28 and 29.
Hosted by Maj. Gen. Michael Hayden, AIA commander, the generals were briefed on Information Superiority, an Air Force core competency in which AIA has the Air Forcelead.
"The emergence of Information Superiority as an Air Force core competency underscores the importance Air Force leadership places in AIA's worldwide mission," said Hayden.
"This visit was designed to educate the leaders of Allied Air Forces on what AIA and its people do as an integral part of the Air Force's operational community. Because many of our units are assigned to their countries, we felt a visit to the Agency was an essential part of their visit to the United States," Hayden said.
Visitors were escorted to the United States by U.S. Air Force General Michael Ryan, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Allied Air Forces Central Europe commander.
Visitors included: Belgium, Lt. Gen. Guido Vanhecke; Denmark, Maj. Gen. Laurits Tophoj; France, Gen. Jean Rannou; Germany, Lt. Gen. Bernhard Mende; Italy, Gen. Mario Arpino; Netherlands, Lt. Gen. Bernard A.C. Droste; Norway, Maj. Gen. Finar K. Smedsvig; Portugal, Gen. Aurelio Benito Aleixo Corbal; Spain, Lt. Gen. Juan Antonio Lombo; and Turkey, Gen. Ahmet Corekci.
The generals and their staffs visited the U.S. to participate in the Air Force's 50th Anniversary activities in Las Vegas and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. In addition to AIA, the generals visited the Alamo and several other San Antonio landmarks during their two-day stay.
