August 1, 1953: The USAFSS School was activated at Kelly AFB, Texas, and placed under operational control of the Air Force Special Communications Center. One of the major functions of the school was to train personnel in intelligence duties.
August 8, 1953: The 6901st Special Communications Center was moved from Brooks AFB, Texas, to Security Hill at Kelly AFB, Texas, and renamed the Air Force Special Communications Center. Initially the mission of the center was to produce and disseminate long-term intelligence data; to operate the USAFSS school; to provide technical guidance and operational assistance to USAFSS field units; to assist the USAFSS Deputy Chief/Operations to develop and test operational procedures and to direct and monitor operations of the Special Security Office system.
August 26, 1958: USAFSS sent a unit to Taiwan to augment the 6987th Radio Squadron Mobile to located at Shu Lin Kou Air Station, Taiwan, because of the increased tension in the Taiwan Straits created by the Chinese shelling of Quemoy.

August 15, 1973: Strategic Air Command B-52 bombers terminated over eight years of conventional bombing operations in Southeast Asia.
August 18, 1978: A1C Tina Ponzer, assigned to the 381st Strategic Missile Wing at McConnell AFB, Kansas became the first female enlisted person to perform Titan II alert.
