AIA announces SNCO of the Year

A native of Union Beach, N.J., SMSgt. David McQueen is 1999’s Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

As the mission support superintendent for the Air Force Information Warfare Center at Kelly AFB, Texas, he “Demonstrated skills and abilities (that) make him first choice for challenges,” Mr. Rodney Waring, McQueen’s supervisor wrote in his nomination package. “He flawlessly executed critical mission issues as alternate 67th Intelligence Wing Operations superintendent. He lead a wing of 8,000 people responsible for continuous operations worldwide.”

When asked about his initial reaction to the announcement of the award during the OAY Banquet, McQueen replied, “I don’t believe I won. There are too many other great people in this command. To compete at this level is just unbelievable. I was at the right place at the right time and was given great opportunities by my chain of command.”
