Managing the day-to-day operations of an orderly room that serves more than 350 Air Force members geographically separated from the nearest Air Force base may seem daunting to some, but not to TSgt. Jeffery Luse, the 67th Intelligence Wing’s 1998 Communications and Information Professionalism Award winner.

Luse was awarded the title by the 67th IW, Kelly AFB, Texas, after winning the competition at the 543rd Intelligence Group, also at Kelly AFB. Luse was nominated by 1st Lt. Peter Lindsay based on his achievements as senior administrative NCO for the 31st Intelligence Squadron.

“Sergeant Luse’s ability to organize programs and processes sets him apart from all others. He has a gift,” said Lindsay.

Lindsay nominated Luse because of his contributions to his unit and his exhibition of outstanding leadership qualities.

“Since Sergeant Luse has been here he has stepped forward and proposed many initiatives that have increased the quality of life and job satisfaction for members of the 31st,” said Lindsay.

One such initiative increased the timeliness of performance reports and feedback.

Luse also extended the hours of operation for the 31st’s orderly room so members could take care of business after their shift.

“One of Sergeant Luse’s biggest accomplishments was galvanizing the orderly room personnel into a cohesive team,” said Lindsay. “His leadership gave Air Force personnel great service.”

Luse also contributes to his unit’s mission by adopting many additional duties including key administrative duties involving the Combined Federal Campaign and U.S. Savings Bond drive. Luse organizes many of his unit’s fundraisers, as well.

Luse credits his supervisors for the confidence they give him and he credits his subordinates for their hard work and attributes his success to them.

“My supervisors give me direction and let me take the wheel. Their confidence in me really allows me the flexibility to get the job done,” Luse said. “The people I work with are the ones who make me successful. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do my job,.”
