An ACTD-like approach is currently being considered. When the final approach has been approved by the JROC and Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Technology) (USD(A&T)), a solicitation will be released. The approach is designed to deploy a capable system by FY98, an acceleration of the current program. This approach will include accelerated procurement of a tactical UAV capability that will provide EO/IR and laser designation capability for forward-deployed units. The system will be interoperable with Hunter through use of the down-sized ground equipment, to be provided through a contract awarded to TRW in September 1994 or through contractor-provided capability.
Concept of Operations
The Short and Close Range Tactical UAVs will be an integral part of our digital maneuver and fire support capabilities. We are already behind in meeting the warfighter's needs for this critical capability and any further delay in the development of this program will severely impact the way we train and fight.General Dennis J.
