DCI Statement on Brown Commission

I would like to thank Chairman Harold Brown, Co-Chairman Warren Rudman and the members of the Commission on the Roles and Capabilities of the United States Intelligence Community for providing a most helpful and thoughtful report which reaffirms the importance of intelligence in the post-Cold War world. I am favorably impressed by the recommendations of the Commission and I'm confident that my friend, the late Les Aspin, would have been proud of what the Commission has accomplished.

The President has asked me to develop an Administration response to the Commission report. I have tasked a panel, composed of members from the Intelligence Community, to study the recommendations contained in these reports.

I expect their work to be completed within the next few weeks. Following this review, I will recommend an implementation plan to the President.
