FAS Project on Intelligence Reform

International Intelligence Officer Basic Course

NOTE The USAIC source site for this material hosts files in .EXE .DOC and .PPT formats [along with a few other formats thrown in just to keep you on your toes]. The material there is arranged chronologically according to the lecture sequence. Some of the lecture topics are pretty boring, and many of them are missing supporting lecture materials. This Command Estimate series was about the only one that had interesting material, so here it is, more or less semi complete. We have converted these files to HTML, and generally though not precisely preserved their original look and feel.

Command Estimate

This instruction explains Army Operations through the Principles of War, and the combat functions and organization of U.S. Army Divisions (ABN, ASSLT, LT, HVY, ACR). It also explains how to perform the integration and synchronization of tactical intelligence to support defensive operations, as well as, the four steps of the IPB process, the written and graphic products produced during IPB, how to apply the IPB process to Mission Analysis; the five steps in the intelligence cycle, intelligence warfare, and the intelligence estimate.
