(Both nominees have extensive intelligence experience) (510) Washington -- President Clinton announced February 17 that he has named former Republican Senator Warren Rudman to be the new chair and former Duke University Law School assistant dean Anthony Harrington to be vice chair of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Rudman has served as the Board's acting chair since 1977. Harrington is currently a member of the Commission on Roles and Capabilities of the U.S. Intelligence Community. The Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board advises the President on the quality, quantity and adequacy of intelligence activities. HARRINGTON AS VICE CHAIR OF THE PRESIDENT'S FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY BOARD The President today announced his intent to appoint former Senator Warren B. Rudman as Chair and Anthony S. Harrington as Vice Chair of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Senator Warren B. Rudman, of Hollis, New Hampshire, is being appointed as Chair of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board and has been Acting Chair since November 1997. Senator Rudman is a partner at the international law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and formerly served as Vice Chair of the congressionally-created Commission on the Roles and Capabilities of the United States Intelligence Community. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1980-1992, where he was Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Ethics Committee and Vice Chairman of the Select Committee investigating arms transfers to Iran. Senator Rudman also served as a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Appropriations Committee, the Government Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Investigations. Before his U.S. Senate career, Senator Rudman was the Attorney General of the State of New Hampshire, where he established the first Consumer Protection Division and Environmental Protection Division of the Attorney General's office. He was a combat platoon leader and company commander in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Senator Rudman earned his B.S. from Syracuse University and his L.L.B. from Boston College Law School. Anthony S. Harrington, of Easton, Maryland, is being appointed as Vice Chair of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. He currently serves as a member of the Commission on Roles and Capabilities of the U.S. Intelligence Community. He is a senior partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan and Hartson and is a founder, director, or officer of various business and non-profit organizations. He was formerly Assistant Dean of Duke Law School. Mr. Harrington received his B.A. as Morehead Scholar from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his L.L.B. from Duke University. By advising the President on the quality, quantity and adequacy of intelligence activities, the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board enhances the national security of the United States.
