Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly appointed Ambassador to
the European Union and former Deputy Mossad Chief Ephraim Halevy to head the
Mossad, with Israel Defense Forces OC Northern Command Maj. Gen. Amiram
Levin acting as his deputy, THE JERUSALEM POST reported. The Prime
Minister's Office has yet to officially announce the new appointments.
Sources indicated that Halevy and Levin agreed to their new posts while
meeting with Netanyahu on Tuesday. Halevy will manage the entire
organization, while Levin will act as head of operations and special
assignments.
This was the Prime Minister's first meeting with the two men since Danny
Yatom's resignation last week, the sources noted.
According to Israel Radio, KOL YISRAEL, Netanyahu reportedly intends for
Halevy to serve as a mentor for Levin. The possibility exists that Levin
will succeed Halevy after two years as deputy.
