The Space Based Infrared Systems Program Office continues to make steady progress to replace a 28-year-old Defense Support Program ground system by September 1999. Construction is in full swing on the Relay Ground Station at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap, Alice Springs, Australia, since pouring both antenna foundations, along with the ring walls that anchor the air-supported radomes. The foundations are for the 10-meter antennas that are destined to control the DSP and SBIRS High satellites and receive mission data from the satellites.
