INTRO:  A PALESTINIAN MAN CONVICTED LAST YEAR OF BOMBING THE 
WORLD TRADE CENTER IN NEW YORK IN 1993 THAT KILLED SIX PEOPLE AND
WOUNDED AT LEAST ONE THOUSAND OTHERS WAS SENTENCED TODAY (FRIDAY)
TO 240 YEARS IN PRISON AND ORDERED TO PAY A STIFF FINE.  EYAD 
ISMOIL FLED TO JORDAN AFTER THE BOMBING WHERE HE WAS ARRESTED IN 
1995.  VOA CORRESPONDENT ELAINE JOHANSON REPORTS FROM NEW YORK:  

TEXT:  EYAD ISMOIL HAD ADMITTED TO DRIVING AN EXPLOSIVES-LADEN 
TRUCK INTO THE PARKING GARAGE OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER.  HE 
ARGUED HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE TRUCK'S CONTENTS.  BUT A JURY 
FOUND HIM GUILTY LAST NOVEMBER OF PARTICIPATING IN THE BOMBING. 

BESIDES THE JAIL SENTENCE, ISMOIL WAS ORDERED TO PAY 
200-FIFTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS FINE AND ANOTHER 10 MILLION DOLLARS IN
RESTITUTION TO THE VICTIMS OF THE BOMBING.

U-S PROSECUTORS SAY THE SENTENCE SENDS A CLEAR MESSAGE THAT THE 
UNITED STATES WILL RESPOND TO TERRORIST ACTS WITH THE FULL FORCE 
OF THE LAW.

SIX MEN ARE NOW IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES FOR THE 
WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACK.

THE ALLEGED MASTERMIND OF THE BOMBING -- RAMZI YOUSEF -- WAS 
SENTENCED IN JANUARY TO 240 YEARS IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
