AFOSI welcomes 33 new special agents

ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. (AFNS) -- The Air Force Office of Special Investigations welcomed 33 new special agents to its ranks during a graduation ceremony April 3 at the Air Force Special Investigations Academy.

The ceremony marked the end of 12 weeks of academics, practical exercises and firearms training for officer, enlisted, and civilian agent-trainees in the academy's Basic Special Investigators Course.

Named distinguished graduates for scoring in the top 10 percent were Bryan D. Denny, Christopher Leeman, Todd M. Sweeney and David L. Tomlinson.

Sweeney received the Commander's Award for Scholastic Excellence, while the John W. Wrentmore award for excellence of character, integrity and dedication to duty was presented to Michael J. Christmas. Top-gun honors for firearm proficiency went to Brian L. Birdwell.

The new agents received their badge and credentials from Lt. Gen. Patrick K. Gamble, Air Force deputy chief for air and space operations, and Brig. Gen. Francis X. Taylor, AFOSI commander. The new agents will be assigned to one of 154 AFOSI locations worldwide.

AFOSI, the Air Force's major investigative service since Aug. 1, 1948, is responsible for providing Air Force commanders independent professional investigative services regarding fraud, counterintelligence and major criminal matters.
