TARPS demonstration test

Washington, D.C., May 29, 1998 — TARPS demonstration test. This image of the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., was made from an altitude of 10,000 feet by the Navy's newest model of the Tactical Air Reconnaissance Pod System (TARPS). TARPS is designed to provide real-time high-resolution digital data to the battlefield. It is mounted on an F-14 Tomcat and downlinked to a ground system. The area in the lower portion of this image is known as Pentagon City. The image was made during a test on May 29, 1998, prior to the actual demonstration on June 2.
