CAPABILITIES: (1) GENERAL. GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (AN/USD-9E) IS A COMMUNICATIONS INTELLIGENCE (COMINT) SYSTEM WHICH PROVIDES INTERCEPT AND DIRECTION FINDING OF COMMUNICATION SIGNALS OF INTEREST. AN/USD-9E GENERATES NEAR REAL-TIME INTELLIGENCE REPORTS FOR CORPS' USERS WITH EMPHASIS ON DEEP BATTLE AND FOLLOW-ON FORCES ATTACK SUPPORT BASED ON DATA STREAMS FROM MULTIPLE RECEIVERS ONBOARD SPECIALLY EQUIPPED SURVEILLANCE AIRCRAFT. ACCURATE DIRECTION FINDING (DF) ALSO SUPPORTS TARGETING OF ARTILLERY AND AIR STRIKES. THESE REPORTS ARE THEN PASSED BACK UP THE SECURE DATA LINK TO THE AIRCRAFT AND TRANSMITTED VIA RADIO TO COMMANDER'S TACTICAL TERMINALS (CTT) IN THE CORPS' FORWARD DIVISIONS. (2) SPECIFIC. THE DASR PROVIDES AN INTERCEPT/DF PLATFORM WHICH FEEDS RAW & PRE-PROCESSED DATA FROM ON-BOARD DATA STORAGE VIA THE SATELLITE GUARDRAIL DUAL DATA LINK (SGDDL) TO THE INTEGRATED PROCESSING FACILITY (AN/TSQ-176A). THE COMMUNICATIONS HIGH ACCURACY LOCATION SYSTEM - X (CHALS-X) AND THE ELECTRONICS INTELLIGENCE (ELINT) SUBSYSTEM USE TIME DIFFERENCE OF ARRIVAL (TDOA) TO PROVIDE GREATER DF ACCURACY. THE DASR ALSO PROVIDES A RELAY FROM THE IPF TO THE COMMANDERS TACTICAL TERMINAL HYBRID 3 (CTT/H3) AND VICE VERSA. C. EMPLOYMENT: (1) GENERAL. GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (AN/USD-9E) INTEGRATED PROCESSING CENTER OBSERVES, ANALYZES, AND PROCESSES TRANSMISSIONS RELAYED FROM THE AIRBORNE RELAY FACILITY (ARF) AND/OR THE DIRECT AIR-TO- SATELLITE RELAY (DASR), AND USAF PLATFORMS. (2) SPECIFIC. THE DASR IS UTILIZED TO CARRY MISSION PAYLOADS WHICH COLLECT AND PROVIDE TACTICAL INTELLIGENCE TO THE CORPS, DIVISION, BRIGADE COMMANDERS, AND OTHER UNITS WHICH HAVE A CTT. THE DASR PROVIDES A DIRECT AIRBORNE LINK TO THE DSCS, WHICH IN TURN LINKS UP TO THE INFORMATION PROCESSING FACILITY (AN/TSQ-176A) PORTION OF THE GR/CS SYSTEM THROUGH THE GR/CS TRANSPORTABLE MEDIUM EARTH TERMINAL (TMET). THE DASR FACILITATES SPLIT-BASED OPERATIONS BY PERFORMING ITS MISSION AT GREAT DISTANCES WITHOUT REQUIRING THE IPF TO RELOCATE. EACH FLIGHT MISSION REQUIRES THREE DASR MOUNTED ON THREE AIRCRAFT. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THREE PER AVIATION COMPANY (ELECTRONIC WARFARE), MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION (AERIAL EXPLOITATION), CORPS (TOE 34418A200). E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: POWER FOR THE ARF (120 VAC, 400HZ, AND 28 VDC) IS SUPPLIED BY THE AIRCRAFT. F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: INSTALLED ON RC-12Q, OR LOADED ON C130, C141, OR C5 AIRCRAFT DEPENDING ON THE MISSION AND SECURITY ISSUES. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: OPERATOR: ONE ELECTRONIC WARFARE/INTERCEPT SYSTEMS REPAIRER, MOS 33W PER THREE DASR (ONE UL INTEGRATOR/MAINTAINER IS REQUIRED PER TOE 34418A200. EACH DASR USED ON A MISSION MUST HAVE ONE HOUR OF CONTINUOUS PREFLIGHT/ POSTFLIGHT INSPECTIONS AT THE AIRCRAFT SITE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE/AFTER EACH MISSION) MAINTAINER: UNIT LEVEL NONE (SEE OPERATOR EXPLANATION) DIRECT SUPPORT 33W GENERAL SUPPORT USAF CONTRACT H. SPECIAL NOTES: (1) THIS SYSTEM IS APPROPRIATE FOR PUBLICATION IN AR 71-13 (2) THE BASE ITEM IN ALL AERIAL EXPLOITATION BATTALIONS IS GUARDRAIL V (GRV). THE HISTORY OF THE GUARDRAIL FAMILY FOLLOWS: GRV WAS ORIGINALLY REQUIRED IN FOUR BASIC VARIATIONS: ONE EACH WAS SCHEDULED TO BE FIELDED AT HUNTER AAF, GA, FORT HOOD, TX, KOREA AND USAREUR. AT HUNTER AAF, GRV WAS REPLACED BY GR/CS SYSTEM 1 (TOE 34418A100). AT KOREA, GRV WAS REPLACED IN TOE 34418A300. FOR OPERATION DESERT STORM A FIFTH VARIATION (TOE 34418A400) WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE GRV--THEN IT WAS REASSIGNED TO USAREUR. AT FT HOOD, GRV WAS REPLACED BY IGRV (TOE 34418A500) WHICH IS NOW BEING REPLACED BY THE GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (TOE 34418A200). (3) GR/CS SYSTEM 1 CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING LINS: R37104 (M087AA), Z48621 (M087AB), Z32369 (M087AC), S02634 (M087AD), S68422 (M087AE), P28143 (M087AF), Z16650 (M087AG), Z35531 (M087AH), T77696 (M087MA), Z38388 (M087MB), Z38320 (M087MC). (4) ALL QUICKLOOK PERSONNEL WERE REPLACED USING M087AA. GR/CS EQUIPMENT WAS REPLACED WITH THE OTHER BOIPS.
