A. DESCRIPTION: THE TARGET RECOGNITION SYSTEM (TRS), AN/TRX-2, IS A PASSIVE SYSTEM USED TO COLLECT TARGET SIGNATURE INFORMATION FROM THE HF SPECTRUM. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS THAT PROVIDE THE CAPABILITY TO SELECTIVELY RECORD THE HIGH FREQUENCY ENVIRONMENT IAW ACTIVITY ALERTS FROM THE CONTROL BASE, AN/TSQ-177. THE AN/TRX-2 READS THE SIGNAL ACTIVITY IDENTIFIED BY THE AN/TSQ-177, EXTRACTS OPERATOR DEFINED INFORMATION, STORES IT IN A LOCAL DATA BASE, AND MAKES RECORDINGS OF SELECTED SIGNALS. A STAND ALONE ANALYSIS CAPABILITY IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE AN/TRX-2 TO MAKE REFINED ANALYSIS DECISIONS. THE EQUIPMENT IS MOUNTED IN FOUR EQUIPMENT RACKS. THE TWO WORKSTATIONS ARE CONFIGURED WITH IDENTICAL INTERCHANGEABLE PC/XT/AT COMPATABLE COMPUTER PLATFORMS, VIDEO DISPLAYS, AND KEYBOARDS. AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL UNIT IS MOUNTED ON THE EXTERNAL WALL OF THE SHELTER. THE AN/TRX-2 IS HOUSED IN A S-280 SHELTER MOUNTED ON AN 5 TON VEHICLE. THE POWER REQUIRED FOR OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM IS WORLDWIDE COMMERCIAL OR STANDARD ARMY POWER SOURCES (GENERATORS). B. CAPABILITIES: THE TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES OF THE SYSTEM ARE CLASSIFIED. THE AN/TRX-2 WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECORD UP TO 4 SIGNALS AT A TIME IN THE 2 - 30 MHZ RANGE AND HAS THE CAPABILITY TO DEMODULATE SELECTED HF SIGNALS. THE AN/TRX-2 OPERATES AS PART OF THE AN/TLQ-33 COUNTERMEASURES SYSTEM. IT IS CAPABLE OF BEING OPERATED, STORED, AND TRANSPORTED IN HOT, BASIC, AND COLD CLIMATES AS DEFINED IN AR 70-38. IT WILL FUNCTION WITHOUT DEGRADATION UP TO 7,000 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND WILL WITHSTAND AND OPERATE IN SURFACE WIND GUSTS OF UP TO 90 MPH. C. EMPLOYMENT: EMPLOYMENT OF THE SYSTEM IS CLASSIFIED. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: TWO PER EW COMPANY (AHFEWS). (ONE IN THE LOW POWER SECTION AND ONE IN THE HIGH POWER SECTION). E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: GENERATOR POWER REQUIRED IS 380VAC, 60KW, 3 PHASE, 50HZ. THIS REQUIREMENT IS SATISFIED BY A TRAILOR MOUNTED PU-650B/G 60KW GENERATOR. COMMERCIAL POWER CAN BE USED. AT A LINE FREQUENCY OF 50HZ THE REQUIREMENT IS 380VAC, 60A, 3 PHASE. AT A LINE FREQUENCY OF 60HZ THE REQUIREMENT IS 380VAC, 60A, 3 PHASE (SHELTER) AND 460VAC, 35A, 3 PHASE (ECU). F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE AN/TRX-2 IS TRANSPORTABLE BY HIGHWAY, MARINE, OR AIR. IT IS CAPABLE OF BEING TRANSPORTED BY C-141 AIRCRAFT. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR: CREW OF 6: 2 98G (WITH LANGUAGE) AND 4 98K W/ASI M7. (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) UNIT: MOS 31U, 33T (B) GS/DS: MOS 35E, 44B H. SPECIAL NOTES: THIS ITEM IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR INCLUSION IN AR 71-13.
