THE AIRCRAFT IS THE FOUR ENGINE DE HAVILLAND DHC-7 (DASH-7). IT WILL BE DESIGNATED THE RC-7B. ARL-M DIFFERS FROM THE ORIGINAL ARL PLATFORMS IN THAT IT COMBINES THE ARL-C AND ARL-I CAPABILITIES AND UPGRADES INTO ONE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION TO THE TWO PILOT POSITIONS, IT IS EQUIPPED WITH FOUR OPERATOR/ANALYST WORKSTATIONS; TWO COMINT POSITIONS AND TWO WHICH CAN BE CONFIGURED AS IMINT OR COMINT STATIONS, DEPENDING ON THE MISSION PROFILE. SPARE SEATING IS AVAILABLE FOR ANALYSTS AND OBSERVERS. CAPABILITIES: ARL-M CONSISTS OF ELECTRO-OPTIC SENSORS, RADAR, AND A COMINT PAYLOAD SUITE WHICH ARE USED TO OBSERVE AND RECORD ITEMS OR ACTIVITIES OF INTEREST. ARL-M IS CAPABLE OF DOWNLINKING DATA THROUGH SATCOM RADIOS, ACT 101/106 OR ANY OTHER APPROPRIATELY CONFIGURED AND COMPATIBLE STATION. THE SYSTEM IS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH A TACTICAL LINE-OF-SIGHT VIDEO DATALINK TO PROVIDE REAL-TIME VIDEO TO THE USER. IMAGERY PRODUCTS CAN EITHER BE DIGITAL AND TRANSMITTED TO THE USING UNIT, OR BY VIDEOTAPE WHICH IS REMOVED AND EXPLOITED AFTER THE MISSION. WHEN FLYING DUAL SHIP MISSIONS THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF SIMULTANEOUS DF THROUGH THE AIR-TO-AIR DATALINK. DISSEMINATION OF SELECT INTELLIGENCE TO DESIGNATED USERS IS POSSIBLE VIA AIRBORNE MISSION COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT. THE AIRCRAFT WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO INTERFACE WITH THE PORTABLE REMOTE RECEIVING SET SUBSYSTEM (PRRSS), IF AND WHEN THAT SYSTEM IS FIELDED. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE ARL-M SYSTEM WILL BE DEPLOYED WITH ECHELON ABOVE CORPS (EAC) MILITARY INTELLIGENCE UNITS TO PROVIDE COMINT AND/OR IMINT COLLECTION SUPPORT TO THE CINC OR SUBORDINATE UNITS. SINCE THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF BEING CONFIGURED TO SUIT THE MISSION PROFILE, IT MAY BE EMPLOYED IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS, SUCH AS IMINT ONLY, COMINT ONLY, MULTIDISCIPLINE, SINGLE SHIP, OR DUAL SHIP. THE SYSTEM IS EMPLOYED AS A COLLECTION AND FIRST INSTANCE REPORTING PLATFORM. THE INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION IS THEN TRANSMITTED DIRECTLY TO THE SUPPORTED UNIT. D.
