USN VTUAVFlight Crew & Duties

• Mission Commander

  • qualified in the warfare mission at hand (i.e. NSFS)
  • has lethal force authority or can rapidly attain it
  • participated in the mission planning
  • responsible for integrating the UAV into other warfare operations.

• Pilot

  • enlisted man with substantial experience in flying VTUAVs under the guidance of a VU squadron mission commander/instructor
  • received naval aviation flight credentials that will satisfy the FAA
    • (ie night, instrument, commercial rating in fixed/rotary wing aircraft)

• Payload Operator

  • adjusting the payload
  • responsible for assessing VTUAV products
  • routing products to the appropriate recipient

Mission Commanders must be Designated NA/NFO until trained/qualified pilots can be grown over time.
