Time Line: The total time spent at OBC and IERW varies from 14-20 months. With promotion from 2LT to 1LT now at 18 months time in grade, by the time an officer reports to his first unit he is facing the CPTs promotion board at 2.5 yrs of AFCS. Some officers will not have an OER before their board because the unit did not give a “complete the record” OER. Incomplete files due to “no OER” may drive up our Non-Select rate!
Experience: Some of our officers are spending 12 months or less in platoon leader positions. As promotion to CPT will now come at 3 1/2 years of AFCS, it is critical to get lieutenants into platoon leader positions as early as possible in order to maximize their flying experience prior to the OAC. Captains as platoon leaders is OK - manner of performance is what counts.
Notes:
- LTs ON AVERAGE WILL SERVE THREE YEARS WITH TROOPS PRIOR TO THE ADVANCE COURSE
- WITH NO OERS IN FILE, OFFICER IS AT RISK FOR PROMOTION TO CPT
- FY 96 CPTs PROMO BOARD: 5 OF 11 NON-SELECTS HAD IMMATURE FILES (i.e. NO OERS IN FILE).
