FAS Project on Intelligence Reform

TROJAN Transportable Mini-Switch (TTMS)

The TROJAN Transportable Mini-Switch (TTMS) is a self-contained, transportable switching subsystem interoperable with the existing TROJAN network. The TTMS adds a distributed switching capability to the TROJAN network, and provides a limited theater level switching subsystem for contingency operations. The TTMS provides a forward deployed switching capability tailored to support the intelligence processing and dissemination mission of the TROJAN Special Purpose Integrated Remote Intelligence Terminal (SPIRIT) II systems during split-based contingency operations. This theater capability may be independent of or connected to the existing TROJAN Switching Center at Fort Belvoir, VA. In essence, the TTMS is a transportable extension of the existing Trojan Switch Center, located to support, but not necessarily within, a theater of operations to support inter-theater connectivity between deployed TROJAN SPIRIT II systems and/or an intra-theater gateway between strategic and tactical assets during split-based, force projection operations. The transportability profile of the TTMS is not as a tactical system but having the capability of being transported by military airlift, shipping vessel, rail car or vehicle towed to a U.S. military installation within satellite coverage of the contingency area of operations. This installation requires the proper power and communications resources to support the TTMS.

TRANSPORTATION CHARACTERISTICS / LIMITATIONS: Self-contained within 8'x20' ISO shelter transport by trailer, CH-47/CH-53 Helo, C5A, C17, C-141 and C-130 fixed wing.
