Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: TRAC/MIST: Data Link, LIN Z90631, BOIP M041MC.
TRAC (Tactical Radar Correlator)/MIST (Modulated Interoperable
Surface Terminal): Data Link is one of three major items which
constitute the TRAC system. The other two items are:
(1) Processing Van (TRAC), LIN Z50708, BOIP M041MA
(2) Support Van (TRAC), LIN Z14981, BOIP M041MB.
All three items must be fielded together (1 of each), in order
to accomplish stated TRAC mission. They are collocated on the
battlefield, but the TRAC/MIST Data Link can be remoted up to 400
meters from the power source. It could be further remoted up to 5km
from the power source by using a 5kw generator.
Weight:
Size:
Component items of the TRAC system are mostly unique, non-MIL-STD
items. Specific component items of TRAC/MIST: Data Link include:
-> E02533 M390C, 2 wheeled, 2T., single axle trailer
(extensively modified) ratio 1:1
-> 7633616-02 Antenna Equipment Grp
-> 51-101 Pedestal Assembly
-> 120200-111 Riser Base (lower half of pedestal)
-> 41375-1 Pedestal Model 800 (upper half/pedestal)
-> 120210-101 Riser Access Cover (lower pedestal)
-> 1203-101 Riser Connector Panel
-> 111139-101 Azimuth Access Door (upper pedestal)
-> 120204-101 Elevation Connector Housing/RJ Mounting
-> 120184-111 Telescope Mounting Bracket
-> 120183-111 Counterweight Extension Bracket
-> 120220-1 Elevation Housing Cover
-> 111138-101 Elevation Yoke Cover
-> 76-35794-00 Counter Weight(s)
-> 7640422-00 Extension Bracket
-> 7640423-00 Tie Down Bracket
-> 120175-101 Reflector Assembly
-> 41413-1 Reflector (dish)
-> 120176-101 Antenna Adapter
-> 120188-101 Support Spar
-> 120189-101 Reflector Spar Adapter
-> 120178-1 Scanner Mounting Ring
The TRAC system replaces no currently fielded/documented equipment.
No capability to perform the TRAC mission existed, prior to TRAC
fielding.
B. CAPABILITIES: TRAC/MIST: Data Link performs downlink
reception and uplink transmission of secure and non-secure data and
secure voice to US Air Force operated U-2R aircraft. In addition,
the TRAC/MIST antenna system has 2 racks of equipment which perform
some of the mission functions from their location inside the TRAC
Processing Van.
C. EMPLOYMENT: The TRAC system is normally fielded in the Corps
rear area and EAC. It satisfies the ground Corps commander's
requirement for timely and accurate combat information and
intelligence by providing near real-time access to ASARS-2 sensor
image data and the capability to perform mission planning and
collector control in his area of operations. Specific authority to
manage TRAC tasking within the area of operations is delegated to the
JTF (Joint Task Force), Theater, Unified Command, or other level, as
appropriate.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: 1 per Imagery Analysis Co, Ops Bn, Corps MI
Bde and 1 per Imagery Analysis Co, Ops Bn, Echelon Above Corps
(EAC) MI Bde. This BOI is
appropriate for inclusion in AR 71-13.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: TRAC/MIST: Data Link power requirements
are satisfied by Power Plant, LIN P27821, documented as ASIOE to the
TRAC Support Van, LIN Z14981, BOIP M041MB. This TRAC/MIST: Data Link
can be remoted up to 400 meters from the power source. It could be
further remoted up to 5km from the power source by using an
additional 5kw generator.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a 2 1/2T. cargo truck
to pull the 2T., single axle trailer upon which TRAC/MIST: Data Link
is mounted.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR/CREW/MOS: 350D, 96D
All TRAC personnel requirements are documented in the TRAC Processing
Van BOIP (M041MA), LIN Z50708.
(2) MAINTAINERS (for TRAC Principal item):
UL: 33T, 63B
DS: 63W
(3) MAINTAINERS (for ASIOE):
UL: 63B
DS: 63W
GS: 63W
(4) The maintenance approach for the TRAC is that the
integrator/maintainer will be responsible for fault isolation,
removal, and replacement down to the line replaceable units (LRU).
All back-up maintenance which exceeds the integrator/maintainer
capabilities (such as on-site/on-equipment maintenance), and
off-site/off-equipment through depot support will be provided by Army
maintainers w/contractor assistance. This is the most economical
maintenance concept, due to the limited number of TRAC systems to be
fielded. The contractor will provide field service representatives
(FSR) to accompany the fielding of the equipment and remain on-site
during operation.
H. SPECIAL NOTES:
1. EAC requirements for TRAC equipment are documented as
Base TOE (BTOE) items in the EAC A edition TOE, and will, therefore,
not appear in this BOIP as modernization items.
2. TRAC Camouflage Requirements (drape method) justification
