A. DESCRIPTION: THE P0WER PLANT, ELECTRIC (PPE), TRAILER MOUNTED: AN/MJQ-44 (LIN P28143) IS THE PRIMARY POWER CONDITIONER AND TACTICAL POWER SOURCE FOR THE GUARDRAIL COMMON SENSOR (GR/CS) SURVEILLANCE INTEGRATED PROCESSING CENTER: AN/TSQ-176A. PPE CONSISTS OF FOUR MAJOR SUBSETS: (1) THREE SUBSETS ARE IDENTICALLY MODIFIED TRAILER-MOUNTED MEP009B GENERATOR SETS, DIESEL ENGINE: 200 KW 60HZ 3PH AC 240/416V SKD TACTICAL UTILITY (LIN J40158). (2) THE FOURTH SUBSET IS AN AUTOMATIC MASTER PARALLELING CONTROL AND SWITCHING SYSTEM (AMPCSS) WHICH PERFORMS MOST OF THE OPERATOR FUNCTIONS. THE AMPCSS IS MOUNTED IN AN 8' X 8' X 20' INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS ORGANIZATION (ISO) SHELTER WHICH ALSO CONTAINS: A 60HZ, 72 KW SOLID STATE POWER CONDITIONER TO ACCEPT AND CONDITION COMMERCIAL POWER FOR GARRISON AND EXTENDED DEPLOYMENT OPERATIONS; A 400HZ FREQUENCY CONVERTER TO PROVIDE POWER TO THE NBC EQUIPMENT; A YORK ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL UNIT (ECU); AND A FUEL SYSTEM WHICH EXTENDS TO THE TWO 600-GALLON FUEL PODS AND THREE GENERATORS. CAPABILITIES: THE AN/MJQ-44 POWER PLANT PROVIDES POWER TO ONE OF TWO KINDS OF GUARDRAIL COMMON SENSOR (GR/CS) SYSTEMS: (1) GR/CS SYSTEM 1, WHICH INCLUDES: FOUR INTEGRATED PROCESSING FACILITIES (BOIP M087AB THRU M087AE), ONE AN/GSM-271C ELECTRONIC SHOP MAINTENANCE FACILITY (LIN Z38388, BOIP M087MB), AND THE INTEROPERABLE DATA LINK SET AN/UPQ-3C (LIN Z35531, BOIP M087AH). (2) GR/CS SYSTEM 2, WHICH INCLUDES: FOUR INTEGRATED PROCESSING FACILITIES (BOIP M096AA THRU M096AD), AND ONE AN/GSM-271(X) ELECTRONIC SHOP MAINTENANCE FACILITY (LIN Z38456, BOIP M096AI). C. EMPLOYMENT: THIS SYSTEM IS TO BE EMPLOYED ONLY AT MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BRIGADES, AERIAL EXPLOITATION BATTALIONS, CORPS (TOE 34415A100/200). THE PPE ACCEPTS 208V 3-PHASE POWER EITHER FROM A COMMERCIAL OR GENERATOR SOURCE THROUGH TWO 700-AMP CIRCUIT BREAKERS. IN THE EVENT OF COMMERCIAL POWER FAILURE, THE UPS WILL TAKE OVER WHILE THE AMPCSS STARTS THE FIRST GENERATOR AND PREPARES IT TO CARRY THE LOAD. THE AMPCSS CAN SWITCH BETWEEN GENERATORS AND/OR BALANCE THE POWER REQUIREMENT BETWEEN TWO GENERATORS AUTOMATICALLY WHENEVER A FAULT OR FAILURE IS DETECTED IN THE CURRENT POWER SOURCE. D. THE HISTORY OF THE GUARDRAIL FAMILY FOLLOWS: GRV WAS ORIGINALLY REQUIRED IN FOUR BASIC VARIATIONS: ONE EACH WAS SCHEDULED TO BE FIELDED AT HUNTER AAF, GA, FORT HOOD, TX, KOREA AND USAREUR. AT HUNTER AAF, GRV WAS REPLACED BY GR/CS SYSTEM 1 (TOE 34418A100). AT KOREA, GRV WAS REPLACED IN TOE 34418A300. FOR OPERATION DESERT STORM A FIFTH VARIATION (TOE 34418A400) WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE GRV--THEN IT WAS REASSIGNED TO USAREUR. AT FT HOOD, GRV WAS REPLACED BY IGRV (TOE 34418A500) WHICH IS NOW BEING REPLACED BY THE GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (TOE 34418A200). (4) GR/CS SYSTEM 1 CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING LINS: R37104 (M087AA), Z48621 (M087AB), Z32369 (M087AC), S02634 (M087AD), S68422 (M087AE), P28143 (M087AF), Z16650 (M087AG), Z35531 (M087AH), T77696 (M087MA), Z38388 (M087MB), Z38320 (M087MC). (5) ALL QUICKLOOK PERSONNEL WERE REPLACED USING M087AA. GR/CS EQUIPMENT WAS REPLACED WITH THE OTHER BOIPS.
