COMMUNICATIONS CONTROL SET (CCS): AN/TYQ-40A(V)2/Z43301
(W/RADIO) IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE ASAS "DIVISION COMMS".
IT IS PART OF THE "DIV SET" (SEE A.3. BELOW) OF ASAS EQUIPMENT
WHICH CONSISTS OF 2 PRIMARY SUBSYSTEMS--THIS DIV COMMS/CCS AND
THE 14 ACE WORKSTATIONS/Z05038, AND A SECONDARY SUBSYSTEM--REMOTE
WORKSTATIONS (RWS): AN/TYQ-93/Z72392.
1. CCS PROVIDES ACCESS TO LOCAL AREA COMMUNICATIONS FOR AN
ARMY DIVISION LEVEL ASAS IEW NODE AND WIDE AREA COMMUNICATIONS
ACCESS THROUGH THE ARMY SIGNAL CORPS SYSTEMS AND IEW DEDICATED
SYSTEMS.

B. CAPABILITIES:
1. THE CCS CAN RECEIVE AND RELAY INFORMATION FROM MULTIPLE
COLLECTORS AND SENSORS TO INTELLIGENCE PROCESSING ELEMENTS.
2. IT ALSO PROVIDES THE LINKAGE FOR COLLECTORS, SENSORS AND
ELECTRONIC WARFARE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND PROVIDES LIMITED TRANS-
MISSION OF HIGH PRIORITY INFORMATION TO THE BRIGADE AREA.
3. NET RADIO PROTOCOL (NRP) CONTROLLED BY THE COMMUNICATIONS
SUPPORT PROCESSOR (CSP) AT THE CCS IS DESIGNATED AS THE NET
CONTROL STATION. DURING THE OPERATIONS PHASE, CCS RECEIVES FOR-
MATTED SENSOR DATA THROUGH A VARIETY OF CIRCUITS/COMMUNICATIONS
SYSTEMS. IT IS THE NET CONTROL STATION FOR THE NRP NETWORK. THE
NRP DATA MESSAGES ARE SCREENED BY THE CSP AGAINST CRITERIA PROVIDED
FOR OPERATIONS SECURITY (OPSEC) VALIDITY OF DESIGNATED COMMUNICATION
CHANNELS AND MESSAGE RECIPIENTS.
4. THE CSP EVALUATES AND VERFIES MESSAGE ROUTING WITH RESPECT
TO THE MESSAGE SECURITY LEVEL, MESSAGE CONTENT, TYPE OF MESSAGE,
AND CIRCUIT CLASSIFICATION. IT ALSO EVALUATES OUTBOUND MESSAGE
FORMATS AND HEADER DATA FOR VALIDITY. THE CCS IS DEPENDENT ON THE
SUPPORTING SIGNAL UNIT TO PROVIDE SECURE RECORD (TACTICAL PACKET)
AND VOICE TRAFFIC INTERFACES TO THE AREA SYSTEM. IT ALSO RELIES ON
TROJAN SPIRIT II TO PROVIDE SECURE ACCESS TO THE JOINT WORLD-WIDE
INTELLIGENCE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM (JWICS). EACH CCS PROVIDES
AUTOMATED COMMUNICATIONS PROCESSING SUPPORT TO EFFICIENTLY SECURE
ALL REQUIRED INTERFACES. INTERFACES INCLUDE: ANALOG AND DIGITAL
CIRCUIT VOICE AND RECORD TRAFFIC CAPABILITIES OF TACTICAL COMMU-
UNICAIONS SYSTEMS GENERAL SERVICE (R-ADDRESSEES); AND DEFENSE
SPECIAL SECURITY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DSSCS) (Y-ADDRESSEES).
C. EMPLOYMENT: ASSIGNED TO THE COMMS CONTROL TEAMS @ DIVISION
(LT/HVY/ABN/AASLT (OR DIGITIZED)), WITHIN THE ACE, BN HQ.
WHEN NO COMMS CONTROL TEAMS YET EXIST, IT SHOULD BE ASSIGNED
TO ACE HQ.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
-2 PER MI BN (LT/HVY/ABN/AASLT (OR DIGITIZED
DIV)), ANALYSIS AND CONTROL ELEMENT
-1 PER USAIC&FH (W1E8AA) FOR TRAINING
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: POWER SOURCE= IN GARRISON, THE CCS
UTILIZES COMMERCIAL POWER. WHEN DEPLOYED, THE CCS IS POWERED
BY A TRAILER-MTD 10KW PU-79 GENERATOR/G42170. POWER REQUIREMENT=
120/208 VVAC (+6% TO -12%), 50/60 HZ (+3% TO -3%), THREE PHASE.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: EA CCS REQUIRES 1 HVY HMMWV.
DIV CCS IS TRANSPORTABLE BY C130, C141, C5, C17 FIXED WING AND
CH-47 ROTARY AIRCRAFT, AND RAIL.
G. OPERATOR/MAINTAINER PERSONNEL IMPACTS:
1. NO OPERATOR PERSONNEL PLUS-UPS AUTHORIZED FOR ASAS.
2. THE FOLLOWING ORGANIC ACE PERSONNEL WILL BE UTILIZED AS
OPERATORS: 2 INTELLIGENCE ANALYSTS 96B PER CCS, CORPS & BELOW;
2 98C PER CCS AT EAC. SSG/E6-MSG/E8 96B IN ASAS-DEDICATED
POSITIONS ARE AUTHORIZED ASI 1F/ASAS MASTER OPERATIONS.
3. MAINTAINERS: ELECTRONIC WARFARE/INTERCEPT TACTICAL SYSTEMS
REPAIRER 33W IS REQ'D. ALL MAINTAINERS AUTHORIZED ONLY AS
MARC HRS/MARC RULE-DRIVEN.
4. MAINTENANCE CONCEPT:
THE STANDARD ARMY EQUIPMENT USED AS ASIOE WILL BE SUPPORTED USING
STANDARD ARMY SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THE CHS-2 COMPO-
NENTS WILL BE SUPPORTED USING THE SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE CONCEPT
APPROVED FOR CHS-2 COMPONENTS. MOS 33W WILL PERFORM DIAGNOSTICS
AND REMOVE AND REPLACE ACTIONS AT THE UNIT LEVEL. CHS-2 COMPONENTS
ARE SUPPORTED BY CONTRACTOR WARRANTY LIFE OF CONTRACT, 1995-2005).
THE COMMERCIAL OF THE SHELF (COTS) COMPONENTS ARE SUPPORTED USING
MOS 33W AT THE UNIT AND DIRECT SUPPORT LEVELS (DS). BEYOND DIRECT
SUPPORT, THE COMPONENTS WILL BE EVACUATED TO THE DESIGNATED GOVERN-
MENT OR CONTRACTOR GENERAL SUPPORT (GS) FACILITY OR DEPOT FOR REPAIR.
SPARES ARE TO BE REQUISITIONED THROUGH THE SUPPLY SYSTEM AND DEPOT
REPARABLE UNSERVICEABLES ARE TO BE TURNED IN THROUGH THE SUPPLY
SYSTEM FOR REPAIR. POST DEPLOYMENT SOFWARE SUPPORT (PDSS) WILL BE
PROVIDED BY CECOM SOFTWARE ENGINEERING CENTER (SEC).

c. THE PURPOSE OF ASAS IS TO FUSE INTELLIGENCE FROM ALL SOURCES
INTO A COLLATERAL COMMON PICTURE OF THE BATTLEFIELD AND PROVIDE
TIMELY AND ACCURATE TARGETING INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE PRODUCTS,
AND THREAT ALERTS. ASAS PROVIDES AUTOMATED INTELLIGENCE AND INFORM-
ATION MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING INTERFACE DATA HANDLING, TO COUPLE
INTELLIGENCE AND ELECTRONIC WARNING (IEW) SENSORS, PREPROCESSORS,
THE ASAS, AND THE ARMY BATTLE COMMAND SYSTEM (ABCS) TO MEET TIME
AND ACCURACY REQUIREMENTS FOR DECISION SUPPORT AND INFORMATION
WARFARE PLANNING AND EXECUTION.
