DESCRIPTION: THE MAINTENANCE SUPPORT STATION: AN/MSM-133 (LIN Z44004), COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE MMV, IS CONTAINED IN AN EMI SHELTER MOUNTED ON A MODIFIED, DIESEL ENGINE DRIVEN, INTERNATIONAL MODEL 4700LP, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) LEGAL TRUCK. THE MMV CONSISTS OF: (1) SEVEN SHOCK-MOUNTED ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT RACKS CONTAINING COMPONENTS FOR (FUNCTIONS): INITIALIZATION AND CALIBRATION OF: SATELLITE GUARDRAIL DUAL DATA LINK (SGDDL) GUARDRAIL DUAL DATA LINK (GDDL) TEST MEASUREMENT AND DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT (TMDE) FOR: AIRBORNE RELAY FACILITY (ARF) DIRECT AIR-TO-SATELLITE RELAY (DASR) (2) AND TWO EXPANSION RACKS, ONE OPERATOR WORKSTATION, A SAFE, AN INTERNALLY MOUNTED ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL UNIT (ECU), AND A WORK BENCH FOR MAINTENANCE AND/OR TESTING. CAPABILITIES: (1) GENERAL. GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (AN/USD-9E) IS A COMMUNICATIONS INTELLIGENCE (COMINT) SYSTEM WHICH PROVIDES INTERCEPT AND DIRECTION FINDING OF COMMUNICATION SIGNALS OF INTEREST. AN/USD-9E GENERATES NEAR REAL-TIME INTELLIGENCE REPORTS FOR CORPS' USERS WITH EMPHASIS ON DEEP BATTLE AND FOLLOW-ON FORCES ATTACK SUPPORT BASED ON DATA STREAMS FROM MULTIPLE RECEIVERS ONBOARD SPECIALLY EQUIPPED SURVEILLANCE AIRCRAFT. ACCURATE DIRECTION FINDING (DF) ALSO SUPPORTS TARGETING OF ARTILLERY AND AIR STRIKES. THESE REPORTS ARE THEN PASSED BACK UP THE SECURE DATA LINK TO THE AIRCRAFT AND TRANSMITTED VIA RADIO TO COMMANDER'S TACTICAL TERMINALS (CTT) IN THE CORPS' FORWARD DIVISIONS. (2) SPECIFIC. THE MMV PROVIDES ADDITIONAL TESTING FOR THE ARF AND DASR. IT TESTS BOTH DIRECTION FINDING (DF) AND INTERCEPT CAPABILITIES IN A PREFLIGHT SCENARIO AND PROVIDES LIMITED TESTING FOR THE TRANSPORTABLE MEDIUM EARTH TERMINAL (TMET). C. EMPLOYMENT: (1) GENERAL. GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (AN/USD-9E) INTEGRATED PROCESSING CENTER OBSERVES, ANALYZES, AND PROCESSES TRANSMISSIONS RELAYED FROM THE AIRBORNE RELAY FACILITY (ARF) AND/OR THE DIRECT AIR-TO- SATELLITE RELAY (DASR), AND USAF PLATFORMS. (2) SPECIFIC. THE MMV PROVIDES A MANNED, GROUND-BASED, MOBILE VEHICLE THAT CONTAINS AUTOMATED TEST EQUIPMENT USED FOR THE PREOPERATIONAL POWER-UP, PREFLIGHT/POSTFLIGHT CHECKOUTS, AND MAINTENANCE OF THE ARF AND DASR SYSTEMS. TWO OPERATORS TEST BOTH DF AND INTERCEPT CAPABILITIES IN A PREFLIGHT SENARIO. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE PER AVIATION COMPANY (ELECTRONIC WARFARE), MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION (AERIAL EXPLOITATION), CORPS (TOE 34418A200). E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 30 KW POWER AT 60 HZ WHICH IS PROVIDED BY THE PU-803 POWER UNIT (COMPONENT). F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: (1) MMV SHELTER IS MOUNTED ON NONSTANDARD TRUCK CHASSIS (COMPONENT CAGE 28815 P/N 36-1919672). (2) AIRCRAFT TRANSPORTABLE ON C130, C141, AND C5. (3) TOTAL WEIGHT: 16,393; TOTAL CUBE: 1901.00. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: OPERATOR: MOS 33W MAINTAINERS MAINTAINER: UL 44E, 52C, 63S DS 33W, 44E, 52C, 63G, 63W GS 35H, 44B, 44E, 52C, 63G H. SPECIAL NOTES: (1) THIS SYSTEM IS APPROPRIATE FOR PUBLICATION IN AR 71-13 (2) THE BASE ITEM IN ALL AERIAL EXPLOITATION BATTALIONS IS GUARDRAIL V (GRV). THE HISTORY OF THE GUARDRAIL FAMILY FOLLOWS: GRV WAS ORIGINALLY REQUIRED IN FOUR BASIC VARIATIONS: ONE EACH WAS SCHEDULED TO BE FIELDED AT HUNTER AAF, GA, FORT HOOD, TX, KOREA AND USAREUR. AT HUNTER AAF, GRV WAS REPLACED BY GR/CS SYSTEM 1 (TOE 34418A100). AT KOREA, GRV WAS REPLACED IN TOE 34418A300. FOR OPERATION DESERT STORM A FIFTH VARIATION (TOE 34418A400) WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE GRV--THEN IT WAS REASSIGNED TO USAREUR. AT FT HOOD, GRV WAS REPLACED BY IGRV (TOE 34418A500) WHICH IS NOW BEING REPLACED BY THE GR/CS SYSTEM 2 (TOE 34418A200).
