This system will migrate to the IESS standard by 1998, and subsequently converge to the ESS configuration by 2001. The Exploitation Support System (ESS) will be the community's common imagery exploitation support system. Both the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) Exploitation System (NES) and IESS will migrate to ESS by the end of FY01. Agency Program: The DoD is in the process of establishing a simplified baseline of the best, common information systems across the business functions of the Department. These migration systems represent a stage of process improvement designed at achieving a common set of automated processes and practices in DoD.
NIMA Navy Yard components of the Exploitation Systems Office (ES) and Corporate Networks (CN) are responsible for developing and integrating new capabilities into the NES and supporting infrastructure; providing system planning and engineering support for modifications to existing systems (hardware, software, and data bases); performing trade studies on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software products; providing communications engineering support to internal and external systems; and providing technical support to special projects. A major focus is to ensure that development, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products and operational components of the former NPIC Information Systems (NIS) are integrated into the NIMA planned operating environment. ES and CN are supported by configuration management, hardware and software transition activities, ADP security policy, readiness activities associated with hardware/software deliveries and installation.
