[Valynikin: Born October 16, 1942, in Verebye, Malovishersk region, Leningrad Oblast.   Graduated from the Serpukhov Higher Command-Engineering School (1965), the Command Department of the F. E. Dzerzhinskiy Military Academy (1975) and the General Staff Academy.
 Served in the troops in various command-engineering positions.   Served up the entire military chain of command starting from deputy chief of a technical missile base.   Starting in April 1992 - first deputy chief of the 12th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.    Married with one son - military serviceman.   Enjoys running and chess" (Kommersant-Vlast, 14 May 02).]

  • "Security at the army's nuclear sites is handled by the 12th main directorate in the Defence Ministry, one of the mostsecret subdivisions in the country.
