Annex A. Science And Technology Objectives (STOs) III.M.11. Lightweight, Airborne Multi-Spectral Countermine Detection System. By FY98, explore innovative concepts and technology to support a lightweight airborne stand-off mine detection capability for limited area (point) detection, limited corridor route reconnaissance and detection of nuisance mines along roads. Investigate a variety of new component and focal plane array technologies such as 3-5um Staring FPAs, multi/hyperspectral, passive polarization, active sources, and electronic stabilization to support a lightweight, limited capability for future tactical UAVs. By FY99, complete study efforts and initiate critical component development. By FY00, complete development of sensors, mine detection algorithms, and processor modifications. By FY01, complete integration on a tactical UAV and conduct a demonstration of the system.
Supports: Mounted and Dismounted Battlespace.
