   1.  MISSION.  TO PERFORM GROUND RECONNAISSANCE AND
   SURVEILLANCE IN SUPPORT OF AIRBORNE DIVISION OPERATIONS.

   2.  ASSIGNMENT.  ORGANIC TO AIR RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON,
   TOE 01065A.

   3.  CAPABILITIES.

       A.  AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT PROVIDES:

       (1)  GROUND RECONNAISSANCE AND SURVEILLANCE WITHIN,
   AND TO THE FRONT, FLANKS, AND REAR OF THE DIVISION.

       (2)  ASSISTANCE IN THE MOVEMENT CONTROL OF DIVISIONAL
   AND NONDIVISIONAL UNITS WITHIN AND THROUGH THE DIVISION'S
   AREA OF OPERATION.

       (3)  ASSISTANCE IN DIVISION COMMAND AND CONTROL BY
   PROVIDING A POSITIVE COMMAND LINK BETWEEN THE DIVISION AND
   SUBORDINATE ELEMENTS.

       (4)  SURVEILLANCE AND RECONNAISSANCE TO FACILITATE
   REAR BATTLE OPERATIONS.

       B.  THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THIS TABLE
   FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10%,
   FROM APPROXIMATELY 90% FOR LEVEL 2 TO APPROXIMATELY 80%
   FOR LEVEL 3.

       C.  THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO TYPE B ORGANIZATION.

       D.  THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVEL 1 THROUGH 3 ARE
   DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR
   220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING.

       E.  INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION CAN ASSIST IN THE
   COORDINATED DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION.

       F.  THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON:

       (1)  APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS OF THE DIVISION OR CORPS FOR
   LEGAL, FINANCE, AND PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES.

       (2)  HEADQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS TROOP OF THE AIR
   RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON, TOE 01066A, FOR UNIT LEVEL
   LOGISTICAL SUPPORT, INCLUDING SUPPLY (EXCEPT CLASS III
   AND V), UNIT HEALTH SERVICES, FOOD SERVICE, RELIGIOUS
   SUPPORT, UNIT MAINTANANCE AND UNIT ADMINISTRATION.

       (3)  HEADQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS COMPANY OF THE
   DIVISION AVIATION BRIGADE, TOE 01042A, FOR UNIT LEVEL
   SUPPLY SUPPORT FOR CLASS III AND CLASS V.

   4.  BASIS OF ALLOCATION.  ONE PER AIR RECONNAISSANCE
   SQUADRON, TOE 01065A.

   5.  CATEGORY.  THIS UNIT IS DESIGNATED A CATEGORY I UNIT.

   6.  MOBILITY.

       A.  THIS UNIT IS CAPABLE OF TRANSPORTING 40,148 POUNDS
   (1,041 CUBIC FEET) OF TOE EQUIPMENT WITH ORGANIC VEHICLES.

       B.  THIS UNIT HAS 27,174 POUNDS (2,406 CUBIC FEET) OF
   TOE EQUIPMENT REQUIRING TRANSPORTATION.

       C.  THIS UNIT REQUIRES 100 PERCENT OF ITS TOE EQUIPMENT
   AND SUPPLIES TO BE TRANSPORTED IN A SINGLE LIFT USING ITS
   AUTHORIZED ORGANIC VEHICLES (SOURCE FM 17-95).

1.  GENERAL.

    a.  References.

    b.  Purpose and authority for the preparation and revisions
of Table(s) of Organization and Equipment (TOE).

        (1)  Cyclic review in accordance with AR 71-32

        (2)  This review and version applies concept changes,
updates manpower requirements criteria (MARC), and applies
incremental developenent procedures.

        (3)  This TOE has been prepared in accordance with the
provision of current TOE development regulations and guidance.

        (4)  All equipment readiness codes in this TOE have been
reviewed to ensure strict compliance with criteria in AR 220-1,
Unit Status Reporting. They have also been reviewed to ensure
they are aligned at the paragraph level of detail.

        (5)  The unit MARC code is 11A. This TOE is at combat
support unit that operates in the division area.  It is mobile and
moves.

2.  EMPLOYMENT.

      a. This unit will be assign to a air reconnaissance squadron
of the airborne division. It is normally employed to perform
reconaissance and security operations, providing the division a
ground capability for collecting information on enemy's resources
and activity and providing early warning of enemys movement. It
also can conduct raids and perform combat operations.

      b. The ground cavalry troop may be deployed as an internal
unit or as two or more elements dedicated to specific missions.
The vehicles primarly do reconnaissance; however when necessary,
they can destroy or fix bypassed enemy forces and deny the enemy
key terrain.

      c. To facilitate training and maintenance, the troop is
organized formally with a company headquarters and four platoons;
however, the commander task-organizes the troop for combat based
on the factors of METT-T.  There is no single method of task
organization, but is always based on pairs of vehicles operating
together to provide mutual security.  The commander adjusts the
task organiztion for battlefield conditions, and the need to
balance required mission firepower and internal troop security.

      d.  With the exception of the limited unit maintenance
provided by the assign vehicle drivers and their basic tool kits,
this troop is dependent on other units for all logistical and
personnel service support. Accordingly, it has little or no
capability for independent operations from its parent squadron.
Does not include provisions which would restrict its application
to a single geographical area.


3.  METHODS OF OPERATIONS AND FUNCTIONS.

GENERAL REMARK. The only personnel requirement listed is this
paragraph are those not covered by criteria and measurable man-
power requirements standards contained in AR 570-2 OR automated
analyses related to AR 570-2. All of the pilot positions discussed
below are operational pilots, i.e. primary cocpit seat fillers, for
onlt to identify the basis for the special qualification
identifiers (SOIs) and additional skill identifiers (ASIs) for
these operational pilots.

    a.  PARAGRAPH 01, Troop Headquarters.

        (1)  The functions of the troop headquarters is to provide
command and control, and coordinate activities of the cavalry troop.

    b.  PARAGRAPH 02, Four Scout Platoons.

        (1)  Functions.  These platoons provide the necessary
personnel and equipment to conduct ground reconnaissance in support
of squadron operations. To accomplish these functions each platoon
leader is assisted by a platoon sergeant, three squad leaders, two
TOW gunners, five scout drivers, and three scouts.
