Boeing supports today's Defense Department announcement confirming the current
winner-take-all strategy on the Joint Strike Fighter competition.
Boeing has always taken this approach with the intention of winning the
contract for the follow-on phases of the program (Engineering & Manufacturing
Development and Production). Boeing has the most affordable design that meets
or beats all the requirements while offering the lowest-risk, most reliable and
only combat-proven propulsion system for the STOVL variant. Our simple, modular
airframe design is also low-risk. During this phase of the program we have
successfully demonstrated the advanced design, manufacturing and assembly tools
that we will use in the next phase. These tools have generated verifiable data
that allow us to offer a high "cost-confidence" factor in our proposal.
As we have said previously, there would be room for Lockheed Martin on the Boeing
JSF One Team.
