AN/TSQ-111 Communications Nodal Control Element (CNCE)

The AN/TSQ-111 Communications Nodal Control Element (CNCE) contains a mixture of analog, digital, and circuit routing equipment. It operates as the central point of a node. As the central point, the CNCE configures, monitors, controls, and manages user communications. The CNCE provides communication links that pass teletype, data, and voice circuits to analog or digital transmission facilities. Secure devices are included to provide protection for circuits, trunks, and groups passing through the shelter for destinations inside and outside the node.

The CNCE is the designed to operate as the central point of a node. It configures, monitors, controls, and manages communications by monitoring, detecting, and isolating faults by the use of either multiplexed or non-multiplexed telemetry. The CNCE contains a processor which performs in-service automatic testing of both digital and analog channels. Automatic testing monitors out-of-threshold conditions set by the controller for out-of-sync digital groups and idle channel noise on analog channels. For faults detected during the automatic sequence, an audio alarm is sounded, an explanation of the alarm is displayed on the visual display unit, and a written explanation is also transferred to the hard copy printer. The CNCE can process up to 20 different teletype orderwire circuits using either ASCII or Baudot codes at data rates ranging from 50 to 4800 baud. The total circuit capability is 33 digital groups at a 4.608 MBS per group (256 channels per group at a maximum of 32 KBS) and 30 analog 407L groups capable of supporting 390 analog channels (12 channels per group). Encryption exists for analog and digital communications using the TSEC/KG-81, TSEC/KG-82, TSEC/KY-58, TSEC/KY-68, and TSEC/KY-75.
