AN/UPT-2A Radar Transmitting Set

The UPT-2A Radar Transmitting Set is a pulse modulated radar simulator that is capable of simulating various airborne and surface threats using a variety of platforms. The UPT-2A can be used in targets, and the AST-6 pod to simulate airborne threats and in the Triple Ground Threat Emitter (TGTE) to simulate surface threats. The UPT-2A is the follow-on to the DPT-1. The UPT-2A provides H-, I-, or J-band RF emissions when used with one of four interchangeable magnetrons. The UPT-2A has selectable pulse width (PW) values and an adjustable pulse repetition frequency (PRF). The UPT-2A simulates airborne and surface threats, by producing an RF, PRF, and PW representative of the threat and simulating the scan of the threat antenna by turning the RF on and off at specific intervals.

The AN/UPT-2A(V) (UPT-2A) Radar Transmitting Set (RTS), operating in conjunction with interchangeable manual or automatic tuner assemblies to produce high power, pulse modulated, microwave carrier transmission, can simulate threats in the H-band (7.8 - 8.5 GHz), I-band (8.5 - 9.6 GHz), low J-band (14.0 - 15.2 GHz) and high J-band (15.5 - 17.5 GHz) ranges. The UPT-2 is capable of producing pulse repetition frequency rates from 200 to 5200 Hz in three modes: steady, jitter, and stagger. One of four pulse values (0.2, 0.4, 0.8, or 1.2 µs) may be programmed into a scenario. To simulate the three possible stages of a missile threat (search, acquisition and lock-on), the RTS can scan equally spaced groups, off-set groups (delay) and constant pulses (scan-off). The UPT-2 consists of two separate modules: a power supply/control unit and a modulator unit. The UPT-2 is used in the aircraft mounted AN/AST-6(V), and ground threat emitter (GTE) and surface threat emitter (STE) applications.
