Title: M985 HEMTT & M989A1 HEMAT
Dialogue: Ammunition for MLRS is resupplied by using the M985 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) and the M989A1 Heavy Expanded Mobility Ammunition Trailer (HEMAT).
The M985 HEMTT is a 10 ton, 8X8 truck, with a 5,400 lbs lift capacity material handling crane. The AN/VRC-87D provides FM secure voice command and control capability. The rear-mounted crane can traverse 6400 mils to the left or right. Both the HEMTT and the HEMAT can be loaded and unloaded with the material handling crane. The HEMAT does not have to be unhooked from the HEMTT. The truck carries four launch pods with a maximum on/off-road gross vehicle weight of 59,000 lbs. Its operating range is 300 miles and can climb a 30 % slope. It can be transported by C-130 and C-141B aircraft in an unloaded configuration and by C-5A aircraft in a loaded tactical configuration.
The M989A1 trailer has repositioned axles in a wagon configuration to improve the center of gravity by lowering it thus permitting the transportation of four LPCs or GMLAs. The HEMTT with HEMAT has a 100 foot turning radius.
