Title: FDS C3 Capabilities
Dialogue: Tactical and technical command and control of MLRS units is provided by a C3 system. There are two major components of the C3 system. They are the Fire Direction System (FDS), found at the platoon, battery and battalion level, and the Fire Control System (FCS), found in the M270 Launcher. The MLRS C3 system is designed to be integrated with several Army and Air Force command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I) systems to optimize fire support system employment and effectiveness. The MLRS C3 system can conduct and execute command and control without external C3 input during independent operations. This independent C3 capability exists at the MLRS battalion, battery and platoon levels. The system can communicate digitally with the following systems:
Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS)
All Source Analysis System (ASAS)
Marine corps Fire support System (MCFSS)
Various sensor systems, (i.e., the Firefinder Radar, Airborne Target Handover System (ATHS), Ground Station Module (GSM), etc.)
Platoon Leader's Digital Message Device (PLDMD) or other type DMDs.
