Title: High Mobility Artillery Rocket System
Dialogue: HIMARS is the newest member of the MLRS family. HIMARS is a highly mobile artillery rocket system offering MLRS fire power for the light division early entry forces. HIMARS will carry a single launch pod on the Army’s new FMTV 5 ton truck and can launch the entire family of munitions to include ATACMS missiles. Because of it’s size, HIMARS is C-130 compatible, allowing the system to be moved into areas previously inaccessible to the larger C-141 and C-5 aircraft. Testing of HIMARS began in the 2d quarter FY 98, with one platoon assigned to the 3-27FA at Ft. Bragg, NC.
