A. DESCRIPTION: THE RADIAC SET: AN/UDR-13() POCKET RADIAC A COMPACT, LIGHTWEIGHT DEVICE WHICH IS CAPABLE OF DETECTING AND MEASURING BOTH TOTAL DOSE AND DOSE RATES OF PROMPT INITIAL AND RESIDUAL RADIATION FROM NUCLEAR DETONATIONS. B. CAPABILITIES: THE POCKET RADIAC WILL BE CAPABLE OF DETECTING AND MEASURING GAMMA RADIATION TOTAL DOSE AND DOSE RATES FROM NUCLEAR FALLOUT, AND INITIAL GAMMA AND NEUTRON RADIATION TOTAL DOSE FROM NUCLEAR DETONATIONS. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE POCKET RADIAC WILL OPERATE THROUGHOUT THE THEATER AS A FLEXIBLE AND VERSATILE NUCLEAR RADIATION DETECTION SYSTEM. IT WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF COMBAT, COMBAT SUPPORT, AND COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT SURVIVABILITY AND OPERATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY IN A NUCLEAR ENVIRONMENT. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE (1) PER PLATOON OR EQUIVALENT, ONE (1) PER COMPANY HEADQUARTERS, ONE (1) PER INDEPENDENTLY OPERATING ELEMENT. E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 4 AAA Alkaline batteries (nsn: 6135008264798) F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: NONE. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) MOS AND CREW SIZE: THE POCKET RADIAC IS AN INDIVIDUAL ITEM OF EQUIPMENT. OPERATOR IS GENERAL PURPOSE USER (GPU). (2) THERE WILL BE NO ADDITIONAL MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS FOR SYSTEM OPERATION OR MAINTENANCE AT ALL LEVELS.
