A. DESCRIPTION: THE TRUCK, TRACTOR, HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORTER (HET) IS A MULTI-AXLE, DIESEL ENGINE, AUTOMATIC, TRANSMISSION, TRUCK TRACTOR WITH A GVW OF 90,000 LBS (APPROXIMATELY), CAPABLE OF USE ON PRIMARY, SECONDARY ROADS, TRAILS AND CROSS-COUNTRY. THE TRUCK TRACTOR IS CONSIDERED A COMMERCIAL NON-DEVELOPMENTAL ITEM. B. CAPABILITIES: THE HET, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE XM1000 SEMI-TRAILER, LOWBED, 70 TON, WILL TRANSPORT THE M1A1 MAIN BATTLE TANK. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE HET SYSTEM'S PRIMARY FUNCTION WILL BE TO PROVIDE LINE HAUL, LOCAL HAUL, AND EVACUATION OF TRACKED COMBAT VEHICLES AND OTHER HEAVY TRACKED AND WHEELED EQUIPMENT DURING TACTICAL OPERATIONS, ON - AND OFF - ROAD, WORLDWIDE, IN DIVISIONAL TRANSPORTATION MOTOR TRANSPORT COMPANIES AND NONDIVISIONAL TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANIES D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE HET TRUCK, TRACTOR WILL REPLACE THE HET TRUCK TRACTOR, LIN T61035 ON A ONE FOR ONE (1 FOR 1) BASIS IN ALL UNITS EXCEPT THE TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY (TOE 55729L000 WHERE IT WILL BE REPLACED ON A ONE AND ONE HALF FOR ONE (1-1/2 FOR 1) BASIS IN THE TRUCK SQUADS (TOE PARA 04) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DA APPROVED UNIT PRODUCTIVITY STUDY. THE STUDY REQUIRES 36 HET SYSTEMS AS TASK VEHICLES IN THE HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY (INSTEAD OF 24 HET SYSTEMS) IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF THESE UNITS IN THE FORCE, WHICH, IN TURN, REDUCES FORCE STRUCTURE REQUIREMENTS. E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: N/A F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: HET MUST BE TRANSPORTABLE BY C-5 AND OTHER PROJECTED MILITARY TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT OF APPROPRIATE CAPACITY AND BY OTHER TRANSPORT MODES WITH MINIMUM PRACTICABLE RESTRICTIONS. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR: (A) CREW SIZE/AOC/MOS: TWO (2) 88M'S ARE REQUIRED TO CREW THE XM1000/XM1070 VEHICLE COMBINATION. (B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): N/A (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) UNIT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: 35H, 63G AND 63S. (B) DS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: 44B, 44E, 63G AND 63W.
