Command and Control. The Field Artillery continues to modernize its command and control systems throughout the force. This system linking sensor to decider to shooter is vital to the delivery of timely and accurate fires. Computer systems like IFSAS and AFATDS provide cannoneers fast and reliable data transfers between the observers, the fire direction center, and the weapon system. This system represents a quantum leap in the sphere of digital communications, however, the obsolete artillery command and control vehicles temper the digital success. These systems are mounted in the M577 Command Carrier. The M577 can not keep up with the Army’s Bradley and Abrams based heavy force. The Bradley Fire Support Vehicle is partially funded however the Bradley based C2V does not include replacing the M577 in the self-propelled or MLRS force. The overall rating for command and control is AMBER.
