- Rockets and Missiles. MLRS rocket and missile systems are critical for shaping the battlespace and for achieving decisive victories with minimum friendly losses on future battlefields. Rockets and missiles will play an increased warfighting role because of their current and potential range and precision capabilities in destroying high value targets.
- A program of continuous modernization is required to produce new rockets and missile systems that will satisfy future operational capabilities. HIMARS is essential to provide strategic transportability necessary to provide early entry forces a system capable of delivering MFOM at the beginning of a conflict and tactical mobility to sustain it.
- MLRS Munitions - Currently, there is no rocket with precision kill capabilities. ER-G is the beginning of precision rocket fire. MSTAR is essential, however, to provide the complete capability. MSTAR requires the integration of a smart munition with the extended range guided MLRS rocket to achieve precision kill to maximum tactical fires range.
- We must continue the momentum of our current munitions programs and focus research and development on the most promising future technologies. Our goal is to field a spectrum of lethality giving the joint commander the freedom to attack in every corner of the battlespace.
