APPENDIX G

PRE - COMBAT INSPECTION CHECKLISTS

G-1. INTRODUCTION

PCI checklists may be used in a variety of situations and are not intended to replace unit tactical SOPs or other system(s) designed to track and report the status/progress of a unit. A PCI is conducted by a unit commander or leader to determine the forces readiness to execute its assigned tactical missions. These inspections may be formal and may be announced or unannounced. Generally, the PCI will cover those points that could mean the difference between mission success or failure and those points that serve as indicators of maintenance, readiness, or morale trends within the unit. Ideally, given enough time, everything in the unit would be checked. To be most efficient and effective, the PCI must be planned. FM 71-123, Chapter 2 provides additional details on conduct of PCIs.
