The Type 520T 'Houjian' -class large missile boats carry five C-801/YJ-1 anti-ship missiles. Conflicting reports that these boats carry either four or six missiles are evidently based on the fact that the mid-ship launcher is asymmetric, with the two missiles to port and three to starboard, with divergent estimates of the weapon load apparently deriving from contemplating either the port or the starboard launcher, and assuming that the other is identical. The operational or engineering source of this unusual asymmetric configuration is not apparent.
