Project 57 Krupnyy
Project 57A Kanin

According to Western sources, a total of 36 units of the Kotlin class were initially planned, though construction halted at 27 units, with four of the hulls initially laid down to the Kotlin design completed at Kildin missile destroyers, with an additional eight Krupnyy/Kanin missile destroyers built to a similar design. These ships were reclassified Large Missile Ships (Bol'shoy Raketny Korabl' BRK) on 19 May 1966. Between 1966 and 1977 the units of this class were all converted under Project 57A to replace the obsolete of the SS-N-1 Scrubber SSM with improved ASW capabilities. They were subsequently redesignated Large Anti-Submarine Ship (Bol'shoy Protivolodochny Korabl' BPK) by the Russians, and the Kanin class by the West. The last of the Kanin class destroyers were stricken in the early 1990s.
